Sherpur: Four people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto rickshaw on the Sherpur-Dhaka highway in the Paiska bypass area under Nakla upazila of the district today. The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through the local community as they grapple with the aftermath of the fatal crash. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Tayeba, 10, daughter of Tofazzal Hossain of Purbadhala upazila of Netrakona district; Tajen Mia, 15, son of Sultan Mia of Palashia area of Sherpur Sadar upazila; Subina Akhter, 20, daughter of Sultan Mia of Kaziakanda area of Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh district; and Alal Uddin, 35, son of Abul Kashem of Uttar Shahapur area of Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh district. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm when a pickup van traveling to Sherpur from Mymensingh collided head-on with a CNG-run auto rickshaw. The collision resulted in the immediate death of two passengers on the spot, while fiv e others were injured. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Nakla Police Station, Habibur Rahman, confirmed these details. Locals acted quickly to rescue the injured and transported them to Nakla Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor at the health complex then referred the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, two of the passengers succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital, as confirmed by OC Rahman. The police have indicated that legal action will be taken in connection with the accident, providing a glimmer of hope for justice amidst the tragedy.
