Gaibandha: A mobile court imposed fines totaling Taka 50,000 on four business establishments in Sadar upazila, Gaibandha, for mixing banned substances into food under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 on Thursday night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), Gaibandha district administration, and Special Response Battalion (SRB)-13 jointly conducted the operation. The SRB-13 press release stated that these actions were part of a coordinated effort to enforce consumer protection laws.
The fines were distributed as follows: Emdadul Haque Sarkar's establishment was fined Taka 10,000, Sajib Store Taka 5,000, Md Imran Hasan's establishment Taka 25,000, and Kamrul Hasan's establishment Taka 10,000. These fines were imposed following the detection of banned substances in food products during the operation.
The SRB-13 emphasized that their intelligence activities and ongoing operations will persist to uphold a zero-tolerance policy against illegal practices such as hoarding, overpricing, and food adulteration.
