Dhaka: Four people, including the alleged mastermind, have been arrested in connection with a crude bomb explosion in front of Jatrabari Police Station that left a pedestrian critically injured. Chief of Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Chief Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed this information during a news briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Mintoo Road.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, four unexploded crude bombs were recovered from Lalbagh based on information provided by one of the arrested suspects. The individuals arrested have been identified as Md Rayhan Uddin, 35, Russell Khan, 32, Ala Uddin, 28, and Abdullah, 28. The blast occurred on the road in front of the Jatrabari Police Station at around 8:00 pm on September 18, resulting in serious injuries to a passerby.
Following the explosion, a joint investigation was launched by the Jatrabari police and DB's Wari Division. Investigators used CCTV footage from the scene to identify those allegedly involved. A DB team arrested Rayhan Uddin from the Bangshal area on September 19. Information obtained during his interrogation led DB members to conduct a raid at around 12:15 am on September 20 at a parking area on the ground floor of a 10-storey building on Zen Saha Road under Lalbagh Police Station. There, four unexploded crude bombs, wrapped in red adhesive tape, were found in a sack of brick chips beside a pillar.
Subsequently, three other suspects were apprehended during a raid in the Dogair area of Demra. According to DB, Rayhan had previously been arrested in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station and, after a long period in jail, was released on bail before allegedly resuming criminal activities. The four suspects are initially believed to be active members of a banned political organisation, according to police.
A case has been filed against the arrested suspects with Jatrabari Police Station under the Explosives Act. The DB and police station teams are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest others involved in the incident.
