Dhaka: The Forum Panel emerged victorious in the biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), securing 31 out of the 35 director posts. The election saw Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) lead the Forum Panel to a decisive win against the Sammilito Parishad Panel, which managed to capture only four director posts.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the election results were declared by the election commission last night. The BGMEA election was conducted simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram, with the Forum Panel winning 25 director posts in Dhaka and six in Chattogram. Meanwhile, the Sammilito Parishad Panel secured one director post in Dhaka and three in Chattogram.
The election comprised a total of 35 director posts, with 26 allocated for the Dhaka region and nine for the Chattogram region. Voting commenced at 8:00 am and concluded at 5:00 pm without interruption yesterday.
In Dhaka, the voting took place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel, where 1528 out of 1631 votes were cast, although 103 votes were declared invalid. At the Chattogram center, 248 out of 303 votes were cast, with six votes deemed invalid.
The previous BGMEA election occurred in March last year, but the then-president, SM Mannan Kochi, resigned in October following the fall of the Hasina government in August. Subsequently, the government appointed Md Anwar Hossain as the BGMEA administrator to oversee the current election.
