Rangpur: Police have arrested former councillor of Ward 13 of Rangpur City Corporation, Fazle Elahi Fulu, who is also a leader of the Awami League, in connection with several cases of attempted murder and attacks related to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The arrest marks a significant development in ongoing legal proceedings against him.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fazle Elahi Fulu was apprehended in the Kachari Bazar area of Rangpur metropolis on Thursday night. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali police station, Md Ataur Rahman, confirmed the arrest to BSS this afternoon, noting the importance of Fulu’s capture in the context of the cases against him.
Fulu previously held the position of Vice-president of the Ward 13 Committee of the Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League. His political career faced a downturn when the Awami League regime fell during a student-public uprising on August 5 of the previous year, prompting him to go into hiding.
“We produced Fulu before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court from where he was sent to jail this afternoon,” OC Ataur Rahman added, indicating that legal processes are actively underway following the arrest.
