Former KCC Mayor’s Wife Passes Away at 81

Khulna: Laila Arzuman Banu, wife of former mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, has passed away while undergoing treatment at Khulna City Medical College Hospital. She was 81.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Laila Arzuman Banu breathed her last at the hospital on Friday evening. Family sources said she had long been suffering from kidney disease and other old age complications. She leaves behind one son, three daughters, relatives, and numerous admirers to mourn her death.



Her first namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers today in front of her residence on Gagan Babu Road in the city. Later, a second janaza will be held after Asr prayers at Majhiara village under Tala upazila in Satkhira District, where she will be laid to rest at the family graveyard.



Leaders of different political, social, and freedom fighters’ organisations expressed deep shock at her death. In a condolence message, Khulna District BNP convener Md Moniruzzaman Montu and acting member secretary and administrator of the district council SM Monirul Hasan Bappi prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.



Former mayor and convener of the city unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad Mohammad Moniruzzaman Moni and district Muktijoddha Sangsad convener Md Abu Zafar also expressed grief in a joint statement. In separate messages, Khulna City BNP president Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, general secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, and organisational secretaries conveyed deep condolences over her demise.
