Jhalakathi: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated legal proceedings against four individuals, including the former Superintendent of Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital, Dr. Shamim Ahmed. The case involves allegations of irregularities and fraudulent practices in the tendering process, which resulted in the awarding of a contract worth Tk 2.16 crore.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shamim Ahmed, who is now serving at Khagrachari Hospital, has been named in the lawsuit alongside three contractors. The case was filed by Partha Chandra Pal, the Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC Pirojpur office, on Wednesday. The charges have been brought under the Anti-Corruption Act 5(2) and sections 420, 409, and 109 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are Shipra Rani Piplai, a contractor based on Barisal Katpatti Road, her son Sohag Krishna Piplai, and her husband Satya Krishna Piplai. The ACC Pirojpur Deputy Director has accepted the complaint, registering it as Case No. 15.
The allegations pertain to the procurement of Medical and Surgical Requisites (MSR) for Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital during the 2023-24 financial year. The Annual Procurement Plan (APP) for this period was sanctioned for Tk 5 crore. In his role as Superintendent, Dr. Shamim Ahmed issued tenders amounting to Tk 2.16 crore for purchasing items including gauze, bandage, cotton, medicine, chemicals, furniture, and kitchen supplies.
