Dhaka:A former central leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Shah Mostafa Alamgir, 55, was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in West Agargaon on Wednesday morning.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrest was carried out by a team from the DB Gulshan Division around 7:00 am. Md Akthar Hossain, DMP deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations), confirmed the operation.
Alamgir previously held the positions of social welfare secretary and organizing secretary of the BCL central committee. He also served as president of the Kabi Jasimuddin Hall unit of BCL at Dhaka University. Additionally, he was a joint secretary of the Publicity and Publication Sub-committee of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, and was a member of the Netrokona district Awami League.
The DB alleges that Alamgir has been involved in activities supporting the Awami League with the aim of creating instability in the country.
