Jamalpur: Four children tragically drowned in the Brahmaputra River when a floating drum bridge collapsed in Dewanganj Upazila this afternoon. The victims have been identified as Abir Hossain, 14, son of Habibullah from Beltoli village, Abdul Motaleb, 6, and sisters Khadiza, 12, and Maya Moni, 10, daughters of Joynal Miah from Dakatia Para village in Dewanganj Upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the children were among several individuals who had gathered on the drum-made floating bridge for amusement during the Eid celebrations. The incident occurred when the bridge unexpectedly gave way, causing multiple people, including the victims, to fall into the river. Several individuals remain missing following the collapse.
Upon receiving news of the incident, a team from the Fire Service and Civil Defence quickly arrived at the scene. They managed to recover the bodies of the four children. Senior Station Officer Sheikh Rabiul Islam Akanda confirmed the recovery of the bodies, marking a tragic end to the festivities for the families involved.
