Five Women Honored for Achievements on Begum Rokeya Day in Khulna

Khulna: The Khulna district administration honored five women as “Best Indomitable Women,” commonly referred to as ‘Joyeeta,’ to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Begum Rokeya Day. The ceremony took place at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, organized by both the district administration and the Department of Women Affairs.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the five women from Khulna were awarded crests and certificates for their remarkable contributions across various categories. The recipients include Tarana Tabassum from Khalishpur for economic success, Dr. Mohsina Rahman from Koyra for achievements in education and employment, Feroza Khatun from Paikgacha as a successful mother, Mansi Mondal from Koyra for overcoming violence and rebuilding her life, and Tereza Gomez from Paikgacha for her exceptional contribution to social development.



Deputy Commissioner A.S.M. Jamshed Khandaker, the chief guest at the event, emphasized the progress of women in Bangladesh, stating that they are no longer lagging behind in any sector. He highlighted the pioneering efforts of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, who broke societal barriers and became an icon for women’s empowerment.



The programme was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitan Kumar Mandal. Other notable speakers included Daily Manab Zamin Bureau Chief Rashedul Islam and women’s leader Advocate Shamima Sultana Shilu. Suraiya Siddika, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, delivered the welcome speech, and representatives from various women’s organizations were in attendance.



Additionally, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) observed “Begum Rokeya Day 2025” with a prayer and discussion at Rokeya Hall, reflecting on her life and contributions to women’s rights. KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md Maksud Helali served as the chief guest, with other academic dignitaries present to honor the legacy of Begum Rokeya.
