Dhaka: Five more children have tragically passed away from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the same period, authorities recorded 941 new suspected measles cases along with 84 confirmed cases. From March 15 to August 12, the nation has seen a total of 786 deaths from measles-like symptoms and 99 fatalities from confirmed measles infections, bringing the combined death toll to a staggering 885.
The DGHS press release further detailed that since March 15, a total of 139,125 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide, with 17,469 of these cases confirmed as measles infections. In response to the outbreak, 104,717 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals, with 101,056 having successfully recovered and been discharged.
The data highlights the ongoing public health challenge posed by measles and similar illnesses, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and healthcare interventions.
