Kushtia: Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a gas-carrying lorry and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on the Kushtia bypass road. The tragic incident unfolded around 2 pm in front of the Kushtia Store Fuel Pump, as reported by eyewitnesses on the scene.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Officer-in-Charge (Acting) of Kushtia Highway Police, Abu Obayed, stated that the CNG auto-rickshaw was completely crushed in the impact of the collision. Three individuals died instantly at the scene, while two women, who sustained severe injuries, were rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.
The victims of the accident have been identified as Ashraful Islam, son of Abdul Malek from the Khajangar area in Kushtia Sadar, his wife Shirin Khatun, Amena Khatun and Kamela Khatun-wives of the late Sirajul Islam from Chakrajapur village in Baha Upazila, and the CNG driver, Md. Zakaria, from the same area.
Dr. Hossain Imam, a resident doctor at Kushtia General Hospital, confirmed the deaths of the critically injured women who passed away during treatment. He also noted that the highway police brought three additional bodies to the hospital.
The highway police have seized both the lorry and the CNG auto-rickshaw and have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
