Dhaka: Health officials today announced the detection of 1,139 new dengue cases, with five fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a spokesman from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided details of the recent outbreak. The spokesman confirmed the deaths of five dengue patients and noted that the fresh cases were recorded in the 24-hour period ending at 8 am.
The distribution of the new cases saw 179 patients hospitalized in Barishal division, 115 in Chattogram division, and 223 in Dhaka division excluding the capital. Within Dhaka itself, 143 cases were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 254 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Additional cases included 89 in Khulna division, 82 in Mymensingh division, 46 in Rajshahi division, five in Rangpur division, and three in Sylhet division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has experienced 323 deaths and 81,773 cases. Comparatively, last year the disease resulted in 575 deaths and affected 101,214 people across the country.
