Mirpur: In a joint drive by Mirpur Model Thana and the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, five individuals have been arrested in connection with a robbery case, officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced today. The arrests were made in the Savar and Ashulia areas, bringing to light the details of the crime.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Masud Mia (31), Md. Imran Hawlader (29), Md. Suman (39), Anisur Rahman alias Nabi Hossain (45), and Sajib (32). These arrests were executed on Thursday during a coordinated operation by Mirpur police and the Detective Branch in the Zirabo area under Ashulia thana and the Mushurikhola area of Bhakurta Union under Savar thana.
The robbery in question occurred at a residence in the South Monipur area under Mirpur thana last Tuesday. The robbery gang reportedly invaded the house, assaulted the residents, restrained them, and looted valuables at gunpoint. A case was subsequently filed with Mirpur thana, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The joint team from Mirpur thana and DB-Cyber South unit utilized CCTV footage analysis, ground intelligence, and information technology to identify the suspects and piece together the crime’s details. This investigative work led to raids in various locations on April 16, resulting in the arrests and the recovery of some stolen items.
During further interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested individuals had a history of organized robbery activities across the Dhaka district, including the city and other parts of the country. Masud Mia is reported to have orchestrated the Mirpur robbery, recruiting others for the operation. The group convened in front of a mosque near Kazipara Bus Stand before executing the robbery.
Legal proceedings against the accused are currently ongoing. Meanwhile, police operations continue in an effort to apprehend other individuals involved and ensure a comprehensive investigation.
