Firefighter Shamim Ahmed Laid to Eternal Rest in Kendua

Kendua: Firefighter Shamim Ahmed was laid to eternal rest at his village graveyard at Pizahati in Masaka union of Kendua upazila this morning.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the second Namaz-e-Janaza of Shamim was held at his village, attended by numerous individuals including politicians, firefighters, and officials from various public and private organizations. The ceremony began with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Emdadul Haque paying tribute by placing a floral wreath on Shamim’s coffin, followed by a guard of honour provided by fellow firefighters.



Shamim Ahmed succumbed to burn injuries sustained in a fire at a chemical warehouse in Tongi of Gazipur district. He passed away around 3 pm at the NIBPS yesterday. His first Namaz-e-Janaza took place at 7:30 pm at the FSCD headquarters.



The tragic incident occurred when Shamim and three colleagues suffered burn injuries following an explosion at a tin-shed chemical godown while extinguishing a fire in Sahara Market, Tongi, Gazipur, at approximately 3:29 pm on Monday. Seven firefighting engines managed to control the fire around 7:00 pm after nearly two hours of effort. Shamim (42) and Nurul Huda (40) sustained almost 100 percent burn injuries, while Fire Officer Khondoker Jannatul Nayem (35) suffered 42 percent burn injuries, and firefighter Joy Hasan (24) incurred five percent burn injuries.
