Dhaka: Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal today urged department officials and employees to acknowledge and reward exceptional work as a means to foster professional excellence and enhance public service quality.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Brigadier General Kamal made these remarks during an award and insignia distribution ceremony held at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters in Dhaka. The event saw 40 selected officials and employees receive the Director General's Commendation for their bravery and professionalism in rescue and emergency operations nationwide.
In addition to individual commendations, representatives from 28 fire stations deemed the best based on various operational and administrative criteria were also honored. The ceremony featured the placing of rank badges on 14 newly promoted Warehouse Inspectors, witnessed by the department's directors.
The day's proceedings began with a guard of honor for the Director General upon his 10:00am arrival, with Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M A Zad Anwar extending a formal welcome. The event officially commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Qari Sharif Ullah.
The awards recognized fire stations from different divisions, including five from Dhaka and Chattogram each, and three from other divisions. Selection criteria encompassed operational performance, maintenance practices, public awareness activities, and station discipline, among others.
Some of the commendation recipients and a newly promoted officer expressed their reactions during the event. Farhad Hossain, Assistant Director in Rajshahi, appreciated the innovative competitive framework, while Warehouse Inspector Khaleda Yasmin expressed gratitude for her promotion.
Lt Col Md Mahmudul Hasan, Director (Operations and Maintenance), paid homage to a recently deceased Fire Service member, while Director (Administration and Finance) Md Shahid Atahar Hossain highlighted departmental progress.
In his chief guest speech, Brigadier General Kamal lauded the Fire Service personnel for their disaster and emergency response efforts. He encouraged regular initiatives to recognize outstanding performance and elevate Fire Service operations.
The event was attended by project directors, the Managing Director of Welfare Trust, deputy directors, and officials from various ranks in Dhaka. Employees from other divisions and districts participated online from their respective locations.
