Dhaka: A devastating fire broke out at the Shahi Masjid Slum in the city's Gabtali area and was brought under control in the early hours of today. The fire originated in the slum around 03:00 am and was contained by 04:36 am after one hour and 15 minutes of intense efforts, as stated by Md Anwarul Islam, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSDC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fire gutted many shanties, shops, and garages. Upon receiving information, four firefighting units rushed to the scene. Eight fire engines from Kalyanpur, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, and Tejgaon fire stations were deployed to douse the flames.
No casualties were reported in this fire incident. However, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be ascertained immediately.
