Fire breaks out at Sundarbans

DHAKA, Amid the ongoing extreme heat wave, a fire broke out in the forest adjacent to Amarbunia area of Chandpai range in the eastern region of the Sundarbans under Bagerhat around 4 pm today. Confirming the matter to BSS, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Chandpai Range in the East Sundarbans Rana Dev said that four units of the Department of Forest and locals were working relentlessly to douse the blaze. The fire has been brought under control partially till fling of the report. Chandpai Range Station Officer Anisur Rahman said that the fire spread around two kilometers radius and the fire was originated from the flare torched by honey collectors to drive away the bees from their hives. Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans (East Zone), said due to darkness, the drive has been stopped and it will begin tomorrow again.
