Dhaka: The finance ministry has approved a proposal from the home ministry to recruit 4,000 unarmed Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) of police, aiming to enhance the capability of the law enforcement force.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the finance ministry issued a letter signed by Deputy Secretary of its cost management unit, Kazi Lutful Hassan, granting approval for the recruitment of these police officials. These positions, designated at the 14th grade of the national pay scale, will be distributed across different units of the force under specific terms and conditions to boost the capacity of the nation's primary law and order agency.
Following the approval, the home ministry has initiated necessary steps to recruit 4,000 ASIs in preparation for the upcoming national parliament election, as indicated by official sources. Out of the total, 2,000 ASIs will be recruited directly, while the remaining 2,000 will be promoted to the rank of ASI from the position of constables, the sources further revealed.
