Agargaon: The Election Commission (EC) will publish the final voter list and launch an expatriate voter registration app on November 18, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initial plan was to launch these initiatives on November 16, but the date was shifted to November 18 as Sunday is a weekly holiday in many countries. Akhtar Ahmed stated that the exact time of the launch will be announced later.

The new app, named ‘Postal Vote BD,’ has been developed to facilitate voting rights for expatriate Bangladeshis. It allows them to register as voters through embassies and high commissions, ensuring their participation in elections from abroad. Akhtar Ahmed mentioned that the publication of the final voter list will mark the formal end of this year’s update process.

Addressing concerns about the hunger strike by members of Amjanatar Dal, Akhtar urged them to follow legal procedures, emphasizing that they can appeal or reapply after fulfilling the election commission’s requirements. He also highlighted that the EC building is a Key Point Installation (KPI) and called for responsible behavior from all parties.

On the topic of political dialogue, Akhtar noted that the EC is preparing for discussions with political parties, which will commence after the gazette of the code of conduct is published.
