Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-President Professor Ali Riaz announced the amendment of the fifth clause of the “July National Charter 2025,” following discussions with the July warriors and consultations with political parties. The amendment aims to address the demands put forth by the July warriors by incorporating crucial changes.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Ali Riaz made these remarks to the demonstrating July warriors at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital, as indicated in a press release issued by the Commission. The event was also attended by Commission members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr Md Ayub Miah, and Monir Haydar, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.

During the event, Ali Riaz read out the amended text of the fifth clause of the charter. The clause ensures justice for those who were victims of disappearances, killings, and torture during the 16-year democratic struggle against Awami fascism in pre-mass uprising Bangladesh. It also addresses the killings during the July-August 2024 mass uprising by members of the fascist Awami League and its allied law enforcement agencies.

The amended clause further states that state honors will be conferred to the martyrs and their families will be recognized. The injured from July will be declared state heroes and will receive appropriate assistance, including monthly allowances, medical treatment, and rehabilitation. Additionally, it ensures legal indemnity, protection of fundamental rights, and security for the families of martyrs and the injured July warriors.

Professor Riaz emphasized that the Commission intends to present the amended commitment to the government clearly and specifically. He also highlighted that there was no difference of opinion between the political parties and the Commission on this issue.

The “July National Charter 2025” is scheduled to be signed at 4pm today at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, in the presence of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
