Chattogram: Fertilizer production resumed today at the state-owned Chattogram Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), located in Anwara upazila, following a six-month shutdown. The resumption comes after the gas supply to the factory was restored on October 19.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the factory had been experiencing production halts twice this year due to mechanical issues. The first interruption occurred from January 3 to February 25, and the second from April 11 to October 18. CUFL Managing Director Mizanur Rahman confirmed that fertilizer production restarted this morning after receiving the necessary gas supply.
The factory requires a daily supply of 48 to 52 million cubic feet of gas to operate effectively. With the current infrastructure, CUFL has the capacity to produce 1,200 metric tons of urea per day and 310,000 metric tons of ammonia annually. The fertilizer factory was established by the government on October 29, 1987, at Rangadia in Anwara upazila on the south bank of the Karnaphuli River, with technical assistance from Japan.
