Thakurgaon: A fertilizer and pesticide shop in Sadar upazila faced a fine of Taka 20,000 for storing expired pesticides and failing to display essential information such as price, production, and expiry dates on their product packets. The penalty was imposed during a mobile court operation in the Thakurgaon Sugar Mill Market area, organized by the Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the shop, identified as Ms. Sonamani Traders, violated Section 37 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. The operation was led by Sadar Upazila Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashadul Haque. Among the officials present were Additional Agriculture Officer Krishibid Niharanjan Roy, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Abu Abdullah Al Mujahid, and Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Abdul Khalek Sarkar.
Ashadul Haque, speaking at the site, stressed the potential impact of selling expired pesticides on farmers’ agricultural production. He highlighted that such mobile court initiatives are crucial in preventing harmful practices among fertilizer and pesticide dealers.
