Aricha: The ferry movement on the Aricha-Kazirhat route in the Jamuna River resumed after 3:30 hours of suspension due to dense fog, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ghat sources said. The service had been suspended earlier in the morning, causing disruption to the transportation of vehicles and passengers across the river.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of BIWTC Aricha Ghat, Md. Abdullah, stated that the ferry service was halted at 6:10 am due to limited visibility as dense fog enveloped the river bed. The suspension affected four ferries-Chitra, Dhan Siri, Khan Jahan Ali, and Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman-which were anchored in the middle of the Jamuna, loaded with vehicles and passengers. Additionally, ferry Kishani was anchored at the Aricha Ghat during the suspension period.
The ferry movement resumed at 9:40 am, restoring the crucial transport link across the river. The temporary suspension had caused inconvenience to commuters relying on the ferry service for travel and transport of goods.
