Patuakhali: Police have recovered the body of a female police constable, Meherunnesa Urmi (28), a mother of two, from Kalapara upazila in the district. The body was found early Saturday in a room on the third floor of a rented house in West Badurtali village under Tiyakhali union. Urmi was serving as a constable at Kalapara thana and was the wife of dismissed police member Mahibbur Rahman Bappi of Indrapur village in Bauphal upazila. She was also the daughter of Shahjahan Mia of Amtali Poura town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Urmi had moved into the third floor of a five-storey building owned by Amirul Islam in the area about eight months ago with her husband, Bappi, and their two children, one-and-a-half-year-old Fardin and four-year-old Farista. Around 1:30 am, Bappi informed police that his wife had died by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. Police later recovered the body in the early hours of the morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara police station Nazrul Islam told BSS that Urmi's husband and two children have been brought to the thana for support. Police are investigating the cause of death.
