Father, son get life term for murdering man in Gangni

A court here today sentenced two people to life term imprisonment for killing a man namely Kamal Hossain at Sholotaka village under Gangni upazila of the district in 2017.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ripoti Kumar Biswas handed down the verdict to Malek Joarder, 60, an inhabitant at Sholotaka village and his son Alamgir Hossain, 35.

According to the prosecution on May 25 in 2017, the convicts hacked union parishad member Kamal Hossain to death in broad day light at the village over previous enmity. Following the murder, Kamal Hossain's nephew Faruk Hossain filed a case with Gangni Thana accusing 12 people. Later, police pressed the charge sheet.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court gave the order, said Additional Public Prosecutor Kazi Shahidul Haque. The court also acquitted the rest of the accused in the verdict. An accused named Rahomatullah died in Saudi Arabia earlier.

The court also fined each convicts Taka 20,000. If they are unable to pay the amount they will serve six months more in jail.
