Faruk E Azam Highlights Role of Local Boats in Disaster Relief Operations

Swarupkathi: Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, today visited the traditional floating boat market of Atghar Kuriana in Swarupkathi upazila. Speaking at the event, he emphasized the crucial role of domestic boats in swiftly delivering relief and conducting rescue operations during disasters.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faruk E Azam stated the government is prioritizing locally made boats for relief and rescue efforts, in contrast to previous administrations that imported foreign boats at significant expense. He highlighted that utilizing local craftsmanship not only conserves national funds but also supports the local boat-making industry.

During his visit, Faruk E Azam interacted with boat craftsmen at Atghar Bazar, a site renowned for its historic boat market, and promised them necessary support to promote their work. The primary aim of the visit was to assess the feasibility of deploying these locally crafted boats in flood-affected regions during times of disaster.

Accompanying Faruk E Azam on this visit were Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Disaster Management Department Director General Razwanur Rahman, Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md.
