Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, has emphasized the significant role played by naval commandos during the 1971 War of Liberation, which he asserts accelerated the independence of Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azam spoke as the chief guest at the triennial council of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Naval Commando Association at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU). He highlighted how the naval commandos' operations, notably Operation Jackpot, were instrumental in disrupting the supply chain of the Pakistani occupation forces along river and sea routes.
Azam further elaborated on the strategic importance of these operations, describing them as both strategic and successful, and crucial in the journey toward the country's independence. He praised the naval commandos for their heroic contributions to the liberation effort.
The event also saw the presence of other notable figures such as Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA) Convenor Naeem Jahangir, President of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Naval Commando Association Shahjahan Kabir, and Vice President Anil Roy, who attended as special guests.
