Joynagar: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today emphasized the necessity of timely vaccination to prevent cattle diseases. "Prevention of diseases is a big challenge in raising cattle," she stated while inaugurating a vaccination program in four districts aimed at curbing lameness in cattle through a virtual event at Joynagar Government Primary School.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Acting Secretary to the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, Md Tofazzal Hossain, addressed the event as a special guest, as stated in an official release. The event was chaired by the Director General of the Livestock Directorate, Dr. Md Abu Sufian, and included speeches from various officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Dr. Monwar Hossain Molla, Police Super Yasmin Khatun, Director of the Livestock Directorate Dr. Md Boyzar Hossain, project director Dr. Amar Joyti Chakma, and District Livestock Officer Dr. Mohammad Mujibur Rahman.
The vaccines are administered to cattle to prevent diseases and ensure their health, with the aim of increasing meat production and potential export, Farida Akhter remarked. She urged veterinary officers to provide maximum support to farmers.
Farida Akhter also highlighted the challenges farmers face, particularly in receiving fair prices for milk. She emphasized the urgent need for government-subsidized chilling centers at strategic locations across the country and called on non-governmental organizations to participate in this effort.
Acting Secretary Tofazzal Hossain underscored the critical role of farmers in securing food supply and boosting the nation's economy. He noted that the success of initiatives relies heavily on farmer cooperation, as their production underpins food security and the country's economic stability.
