Farida Akhter Emphasizes Vaccination to Combat Livestock Diseases

Sirajganj: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today stressed the importance of strengthening the vaccination program to tackle Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) to safeguard the livestock health in the country. She highlighted the potential financial losses these diseases could inflict on farmers.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser shared these views during a meeting with various officials from the Sirajganj district livestock department at the Bhagabarighat milk factory’s conference room. She emphasized the government’s commitment to controlling these diseases through strategic planning and enhanced vaccination efforts.



Farida Akhter also addressed concerns regarding the impact of Lumpy Skin Disease on the quality of sacrificial animal hides, dismissing claims of any damage. She instructed relevant personnel to bolster vaccination programs, particularly at the field level in the Pabna-Sirajganj region, stressing that no excuses would be tolerated.



Director General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Dr. M Abu Sufian, participated in the program, noting the livestock richness of Pabna and Sirajganj districts. He urged officials to work diligently to declare these areas free from FMD and LSD. Effective initiatives were encouraged to achieve this goal.



The meeting was attended by Joint Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry M Hemayet Hossen, DLS Director (Extension) Begum Shamsunnahar Ahmad, Director (Production) Dr. ABM Khaleduzzaman, LDDP Project Director Dr. M Jashim Uddin, LDDP Project Chief Technical Coordinator M Golam Rabbani, District Livestock Officer Dr. AKM Anwarul Huq, along with other livestock officials and veterinary doctors.
