Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today emphasized the importance of following the path shown by July martyr Shahriar Khan Anas to protect the country, environment, and humanity. She delivered these remarks as the chief guest at the plaque unveiling and prayer ceremony for Anas held at Adarsha Academy Gandaria this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Akhter highlighted that discussions have been initiated with the education adviser and relevant parties about incorporating Anas’ letter into educational textbooks. She described Anas’ letter as a model of foresight, underscoring that his efforts to disseminate his work and principles made the nation proud at the cost of his life. Akhter suggested that students could memorize and recite Anas’ letter at various events.
Addressing environmental concerns, Farida Akhter noted the urgency of the upcoming World Climate Conference ‘COP-30’ in Brazil, which aims to address climate change challenges. She mentioned the critical need for seasonal rains for fish reproduction, such as Hilsa, which require rain in Ashar to lay eggs in Ashwin. She warned of the adverse effects of climate change, including reduced oxygen levels in water bodies, increased salinity, and fish deaths, which signal environmental disasters.
In her address to the students, Akhter stressed their role as future custodians of the environment, urging them to avoid activities harmful to nature. She cautioned against plastic pollution, highlighting its presence in the sea and Meghna River, and its detection as ‘microplastics’ in Hilsa fish. Akhter warned that these microplastics could enter human bodies through food, advocating for a conscious reduction in plastic use.
The event, chaired by Adarsha Academy Gandaria President Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mannan, featured special guests including July Shaheed Smriti Foundation CEO Lt. Col. (Retd.) Kamal Akbar, Rahnuma Trust member Arif Sultan Mahmud, and Shaheed Anas’ father Sahria Khan Palash. Dhaka Divisional Forest Officer Mahmuda Roxena Sultana, Adarsha Academy Gandaria representative Jewel Ahmed, teachers, and students were also present.
Earlier in the ceremony, Adviser Akhter unveiled the Shaheed Shahriar Khan Anas plaque at Adarsha Academy Gandaria.
