Dhaka: The government has announced its intention to launch the ‘Family Card’ on a pilot basis before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, as revealed by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo during a press briefing on Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister shared that the Prime Minister is keen on initiating the project as a pilot before Eid, following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat. The Family Card initiative was a significant part of the ruling party’s election manifesto, and discussions at the meeting centered on its implementation strategy.
In response to questions about the initial reach of the Family Card, Mintoo indicated that the program aims to be universal, without immediate restrictions. He elaborated that a committee has been formed to oversee the project’s rollout, which is expected to start with the ultra-poor, gradually extending to include the poor and eventually the middle class in phased stages.
