Family Card Initiative to Launch in 14 Upazilas for Empowering Marginal Families

Dhaka: The government is set to launch the ‘Family Card’ programme in 14 upazilas on March 10, aimed at supporting marginal and low-income families. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate this initiative, as stated by his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the programme will provide each cardholder family with Tk 2,500, with the objective of empowering women and fostering financial self-reliance. Atikur Rahman Rumon mentioned that a meeting of the committee responsible for implementing the government’s election pledge to introduce the Family Card was convened on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat, presided over by the Prime Minister.



The meeting saw the participation of several key figures including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and other dignitaries. The gathering was a crucial step towards the realization of the government’s commitment to this welfare initiative.



Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister engaged in a busy schedule at the Secretariat, entering the Cabinet Division at 10:00 am. A meeting concerning the New Mooring Container Terminal was conducted at 10:30 am, also chaired by the Prime Minister. Attendees included Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, and other notable officials.
