Family Card Initiative to Empower Women, Says Whip Bakul

Khulna: The Whip of the National Parliament, Rakibul Islam Bakul, emphasized the significance of the family card as a testament to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s commitment to empowering women, a milestone achieved within just 23 days of the new government’s formation.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bakul shared these insights during the inauguration of ‘Family Cards’ distribution at Khalishpur Haji Shariat Ullah Bidyapith, where he served as the chief guest.



Bakul announced plans for the programme’s expansion nationwide post the national budget in June, aiming to include all eligible citizens under the card system. He expressed optimism about transforming Khulna into a modern industrial hub by reviving mills, factories, and other defunct industries, with a firm stance against injustice, drugs, and terrorism. He highlighted that the dream of a developed Khulna would be realized through collective efforts, transcending political affiliations.



Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had inaugurated the nationwide Family Card distribution programme from T and T Playground in Banani, Dhaka, with the event being live-streamed online. The programme’s pilot phase launched at 14 locations countrywide, selecting beneficiaries impartially through PM scoring, which analyzed 49 data types of women from extremely poor, poor, and lower-income groups. A total of 37,567 beneficiaries across the nation received Family Cards.



KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, speaking as a special guest, mentioned future government plans to implement additional initiatives such as farmer cards, health cards, and support for imams and priests. The programme was chaired by Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Mokhtar Ahmed and featured addresses from notable figures including Khulna Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, and others. Anindita Roy, Director of the Divisional Social Services Office, delivered the welcome speech.



The event saw participation from leaders of various political parties, government officials, beneficiaries, and numerous local residents. It was a collaborative effort organized by Khulna City Corporation, the district administration, and the Department of Social Services.
