Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to enforce a new provision that would cancel the candidature of any individual who submits false information in their affidavit for the upcoming parliamentary election. This decisive measure aims to ensure transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah highlighted the commission’s firm stance during a meeting held today. He affirmed that the EC would conduct thorough investigations into any claims of false information and take stringent action against those found guilty.
Sanaullah further emphasized that the consequences of submitting false information could extend beyond just the election period. Even if an individual is elected and serves a full five-year term as a lawmaker, their tenure could be invalidated if it is later discovered that they had provided false information in their affidavit.
