Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged Singapore to invest in Bangladesh’s promising sectors, stating that the country has emerged as a highly potential destination for foreign investment. “There are vast opportunities for foreign investment in infrastructure, PPP, transport and technology sectors,” he mentioned during a meeting with Singapore’s Non-Resident High Commissioner Derek Loh at the secretariat.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that Bangladesh is facing various challenges in development and modernisation. However, he noted that the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is taking effective initiatives across different sectors to sustain economic progress. The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore, particularly in investment, healthcare, technology transfer, waste management, and rural development.

Mirza Fakhrul pointed out that Singapore’s experience and technological expertise could further accelerate Bangladesh’s development activities. Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Shaukat Rashid Chowdhury and senior ministry officials were present at the meeting.
