Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged all political parties to remain united to ensure a fair election environment. He emphasized the need to abandon discussions surrounding the Proportional Representation (PR) system, suggesting that efforts should instead focus on fostering conditions conducive to fair elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks during the inauguration of the final match of the ‘Mirza Ruhul Amin Memorial Football Tournament’ at Haripur Stadium in the district. He criticized the Awami League’s governance, describing it as a period of darkness, and highlighted the emergence into a more liberated state following nearly 15 years of what he termed as fascist rule.
Fakhrul noted that an interim government has scheduled an election for next February. He expressed expectations that people from various religious backgrounds, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians, would unite to ensure the BNP’s victory by voting for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ (Dhaner Shish). He stated the party’s objective to strengthen and consolidate democracy in the country.
