Bangkok: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is recovering well following eye surgery at a hospital in Bangkok. “My father is fine now…It will take several more days for his complete recovery,” Dr. Shamaruh Mirza, daughter of the veteran BNP leader, communicated to BSS over the phone.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shamaruh Mirza shared that Fakhrul is in complete rest as advised by his physicians. When asked about his return to Bangladesh, she mentioned that they would wait for the physicians to deem him risk-free before making any decisions. Dr. Shamaruh and her mother, Rahat Ara Begum, are constantly by Fakhrul’s side during his recovery process.

Dr. Shamaruh, who resides in Australia with her spouse, has requested the public to pray for her father’s speedy recovery. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underwent a successful surgery on his left eye at Bangkok’s Rutnin Eye Hospital on May 14.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Prof. Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain stated that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are keeping a close watch on the Secretary General’s medical progress.
