Ruhia: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today stated that those who fear losing in the upcoming election are the ones plotting to delay it. 'We don't understand things like referendums, or PR - nor do the people. What the people understand is elections. This election is extremely important for our country,' he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Ruhia High School ground here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul highlighted that for the past sixteen years, the nation has not experienced a real election or a parliament elected by the people. He emphasized that the forthcoming election is an opportunity to bring stability back to the country. The BNP secretary general noted the longstanding support of the people of Ruhia for the 'Sheaf of Paddy', the BNP's election symbol. He assured that if the BNP forms the next government, it will focus on the overall development in Ruhia, particularly in roads and infrastructure.

Describing this election as potentially the last of his life, Mirza Fakhrul urged the people to vote for the sheaf of paddy. He reiterated that the people are the true owners of the country, and the BNP has consistently fought to uphold people's rights and democracy, pledging to continue this struggle. He asserted that the only way to overcome the national crisis is through a free and fair election, urging everyone to unite and vote for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' to restore the people's right to vote.

Fakhrul also mentioned the BNP's proposal to the interim government for a Tk 350 crore 'Integrated Development Project' aimed at the neglected and backward Rangpur region, with ongoing road and infrastructure development from Thakurgaon to Panchagarh. He assured that if the BNP forms the next government, this development work would be further expanded.

The meeting was chaired by Ruhia Thana BNP President Abdul Jabbar and attended by District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, and Sadar Upazila President Abdul Hamid, among others.
