Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon all party leaders and activists to be united ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election. "The upcoming election is not an Awami League election; it will be a completely neutral election. We must earn the people's love, win their hearts, and bring them to the polling centers," he said. He emphasized that the focus should not be on who received a nomination but on conveying the party's message to the public.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks during the inaugural ceremony on the fourth day of the BNP's 7-day program titled 'Plan for Nation Building' at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall. He highlighted the opportunity to create new leadership through the upcoming election, aiming to form a representative parliament that will guide the country in a new direction under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
Fakhrul reminded party workers of their long history of struggle, emphasizing the importance of unity in the current fight, which he described as the most crucial and difficult in the last 15 years. He pointed out that vested interest groups are trying to thwart their efforts, necessitating a united approach.
He also mentioned the development and state-building plan proposed by Tarique Rahman as a unique example in Bangladeshi politics. Fakhrul stressed the importance of informing BNP activists about pre-election initiatives and the work planned for the people, urging that this message be conveyed to the public.
Expressing pride in BNP's forward-looking stance, Fakhrul recalled the multi-party democracy established by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and reforms such as press freedom, judicial independence, and overseas labor market creation. He also credited Begum Khaleda Zia for modernizing the economy, empowering women, and expanding education.
Despite being abroad for the last 15-16 years, BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has remained connected with activists, strengthening the party. Fakhrul noted that after Begum Khaleda Zia's imprisonment, Rahman organized the party from afar, providing guidance and encouraging activists to persevere.
Fakhrul expressed optimism that if Tarique Rahman's vision for new state-building is communicated effectively, the people will embrace it. He emphasized setting aside differences to achieve the goal of winning the election and realizing the dreams of Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia.
