Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today highlighted the crucial role played by expatriate Bangladeshis in the July Uprising. He stated that these expatriates were deeply involved in the movement, with some directly participating and others supporting from afar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khasru made these remarks at the fourth dialogue of Tarunner Rashtra Chinta, titled “Expatriate Life, Employment, Present and Future,” where he served as the Chief Guest. The event was organized by the Arpon Alok Foundation at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, with the Foundation’s Chairperson, Bithika Binte Hossain, conducting the programme.
Khasru noted the impact of the suspension of remittance transfers during the uprising, emphasizing the expatriates’ deep concern and involvement in national affairs. He stressed the importance of ensuring political, social, and economic rights for expatriate Bangladeshis, whom he referred to as “remittance warriors” vital to the nation’s economy. He questioned the recognition and value given to those who sustain this economic pillar.
The BNP leader outlined plans for skill development and training for Bangladeshis seeking employment abroad, aiming to secure better opportunities than low-grade jobs. He criticized the poor services of Bangladeshi embassies abroad, calling for better training and accountability for embassy officers.
Khasru also discussed BNP’s future plans for employment generation and inclusive growth, introducing the idea of a “creative economic system” in Bangladesh. He emphasized the need for an economy that serves all segments of society, with the slogan “Democratization of the Economy.” Khasru assured that the BNP is committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach every citizen, sharing the nation’s wealth and opportunities with all.
