Ex-MP Shirajul Shown Arrested in July-August Uprising Killing Case.

Dhaka: A court here today showed former Narsingdi-3 lawmaker Md Shirajul Islam Mollah arrested in a case lodged over the murder of an electrician named Shamim Hawlader in the capital’s Mohammadpur area during the July-August student-led mass uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akteruzzaman passed the order as police produced the former lawmaker before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case. The court later sent the accused to jail.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Shirajul Islam Mollah was arrested from the capital’s Asad Gate area on November 11. The case documents reveal that Shamim Hawlader was shot in the Mohammadpur Beribadh area on July 20 while participating in an anti-discrimination movement rally. He was immediately taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Shamim’s cousin, Jakir Hossain, filed the case with the Mohammadpur police station following the incident. The arrest of the former lawmaker marks a significant
development in the case, which has been under investigation since the uprising took place.
