Ex-MP Pavel Among Eight Awami League Members Arrested in Dhaka

Dhaka: Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested a former lawmaker of the Awami League (AL) from Nilphamari-3 constituency, Saddam Hossain Pavel, from the capital’s Mohammadpur area. Deputy Commissioner of the DB (media and public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed BSS of his arrest, stating that Pavel was apprehended around 11pm on Thursday.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Pavel was accused in multiple cases linked to the July Mass Uprising. Separate DB teams also captured seven other leaders and activists of the AL and its associate organisations from different parts of the capital city. These individuals were allegedly involved in planning and financing for bringing out sudden processions in the capital city.



The arrested individuals have been identified as Organizing Secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Baufal Upazila branch in Patuakhali district, Md. Tanjil Hossain Abhi, 29; General Secretary of Suryamani Union Jubo League under Baufal Police Station, founding President of Baufal Upazila branch of BCL and current Central General Secretary of Bangabandhu Kalyan Parishad, Md. Anisur Rahman Howlader, 43; sabotage planner of Ward 32 of Bangshal Police Station, Md. Delwar Hossain Bablu, 61; Organizing Secretary of Ward 1 of Uttara Purba Jubo League, Al Mamun Bhuiyan, 29; Executive Member of the central committee of Awami Jubo League, Md. Kaykobad Osmani, 53; former President of Khitirpara Union AL under Louhajong Police Station in Munshiganj, Md. Anwar Hossain, 60; and AKM Khorshed Alam, 65.



Cases have been registered against all those arrested in various police stations on specific charges. They were involved in organizing and destabilizing the country by destroying law and order and creating panic in the public mind by holding sudden processions in different parts of the capital.
