Dhaka:A Dhaka court has ordered former Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni to be sent to jail following the completion of her two-day remand in connection with a murder case. The case involves the killing of auto-rickshaw driver Hafizul Shikder during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Badda area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Investigation Officer and Sub-Inspector Riduanul Haque of Badda Police Station presented Dipu Moni before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, seeking her detention until the investigation is complete. After a hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan decided to send her to jail.

Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain of the General Registration Section, attached to Badda Police Station, noted that earlier, on February 3, 2025, Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq had granted a two-day remand for Dipu Moni. However, the remand was delayed due to her court appearances in other cases, including one before the International Crimes Tribunal.

In October, the investigating officer applied to execute the delayed remand order, which the court directed to be executed within 15 working days. Following this directive, Dipu Moni was taken into remand on Wednesday for questioning.

The case statement reveals that auto-rickshaw driver Hafizul Shikder participated in the anti-discrimination student movement on July 20, 2024, in Badda. He was allegedly shot dead at the scene around 300 pm by the accused. The victim's father, Abu Bakkar Shikder, filed a murder case with Badda Police Station on August 21, 2024.
