DHAKA: The Immigration Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today arrested Mostafizur Rahman Mostak, the former Mayor of Joypurhat Municipality and Joint Secretary of the district Awami League, as he attempted to leave for Malaysia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made based on a requisition from the Joypurhat Police. Mostak is accused in multiple cases, including the murder of Bishal, which occurred during the anti-discrimination student movement. Sub-Inspector Jahangir Alam of the Detective Branch of Joypurhat district police stated that Mostak went into hiding following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5.
Joypurhat Police had previously issued arrest warrants for Mostak, distributing them to various immigration centers across the country. He is scheduled to be presented before the Joypurhat court tomorrow. A team from Joypurhat Police has already departed for Dhaka to escort him back to Joypurhat.
