Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today initiated legal proceedings against former Amami League (AL) lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Golap and his spouse, Gulshan Ara, for their failure to provide asset details within the stipulated timeframe.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case was lodged under section 26 (2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. The ACC had earlier served notices to Golap and his wife on April 15, demanding information about their properties under section 26 (1) of the same act. They were initially given 15 working days to comply with the request.
Director General (Prevention) of the ACC, Md Akhter Hossain, confirmed the filing of the case during a press briefing at the ACC Headquarters located in the capital’s Segunbagicha area. The anti-graft body had also issued an order on July 1, mandating the submission of property details. Despite extending the deadline to August 21 upon receiving time petitions, the couple did not submit the required information.
The ACC’s action comes as a result of the couple’s non-compliance with both the initial and extended deadlines for submitting their asset details.
