Pallabi: A close aide of former lawmaker from Dhaka-16 constituency, Elias Molla, was arrested in the capital's Pallabi area on Monday night on charges related to the killing of Sakib Raihan. The incident occurred after indiscriminate shootings at the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mosharraf Hasan Benu, 52, identified as the right-hand man of Elias Molla, was apprehended by Pallabi Thana police. The arrest took place in Block-E, Section-12 of Pallabi around 9:30 pm on Monday, as confirmed by a police press release. Benu's arrest is linked to a case filed with the Pallabi Police Station, addressing the killing of Sakib Raihan on October 3. His alleged involvement was uncovered through an analysis of video footage from the incident. The case details reveal that a group of Awami League leaders and activists, along with affiliated bodies, launched an attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The assault, involving firearms and crude bombs, occurred in front of the Popular Diagnostic Centre in Pallabi on July 19. Sakib Raihan, who was participating in the demonstration, sustained severe bullet injuries and was transported to Suhrawardi Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
