Dhaka:A case has been filed against Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman, a former lawmaker, for allegedly obstructing government duties, causing disorder at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and assaulting a security official.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the case was lodged by airport security officer Md Shahriar Alam Sajib at the Airport Police Station on Friday, citing several sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The incident reportedly occurred around 1040 a.m. on Thursday. Passengers from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-338) arriving from Madina faced issues with trolley shortages and baggage collection delays at No. 8 baggage belt, amid heavy passenger pressure.

The First Information Report (FIR) detailed that as tensions rose, Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad arrived to manage the situation after being requested by Dhaka-5 MP Mohammad Kamal Hossain. During this intervention, Akhtaruzzaman, who had been expelled from BNP multiple times and joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in December 2025, allegedly approached Samad aggressively, directing abuse and threats towards him.

The report also mentioned that Akhtaruzzaman made derogatory remarks about the civil aviation and tourism minister. Further complications arose when Akhtaruzzaman's protocol assistants began recording videos in the airport's restricted Key Point Installation area. When security supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin intervened, Akhtaruzzaman allegedly abused and assaulted him.

Additionally, the FIR alleged that Akhtaruzzaman threw bottles of holy Zamzam water from passengers' trolleys, causing damage, and exhibited aggressive behavior towards a representative of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Police have stated they plan to review CCTV footage, collect eyewitness statements, and gather further evidence as part of the investigation, with legal action to follow based on their findings.
