Dhaka: Former General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association (JUJA) Syed Abdal Ahmed has been honoured in the above-60 category for investigative journalism by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, JUJA President Mehedi Mamun and General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun congratulated him on the achievement. The honour bestowed upon such an experienced journalist is seen as a source of inspiration for media professionals in fulfilling their duties with integrity, as noted in a congratulatory message signed by JUJA's Office and Publication Secretary Mah Alam.
This recognition adds a new dimension to Syed Abdal Ahmed's career and holds significance for campus journalists nationwide. He is currently the Executive Editor of the daily Amar Desh and previously served as Deputy Press Secretary to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia from 1992 to 1996. His tenure as JUJA General Secretary was during 1984-85, and he has held several key positions at the National Press Club, including elected General Secretary for the 2011-12 and 2013-14 terms, contributing a total of 16 years to its management committee.
Earlier on November 28, he received a crest and a cheque of Tk 1 lakh from Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at the DRU awards ceremony. The event was attended by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, General Secretary Mainul Ahsan Sohel, executive committee members, senior journalists, and his spouse Begum Zinat Mahal Chowdhury.
