Dhaka: A Dhaka court today granted a three-day remand to former DGFI director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser in the murder case of BNP activist Mokbul Hossen.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after a two-day remand, the investigation officer of the case produced Afzal Naser before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam and sought a five-day remand. Upon hearing, the court granted a three-day remand for him.
Earlier, Afzal Naser had been placed on remand three more times in the same case. According to the case details, on December 7, 2022, Harun-or-Rashid, Mehedi Hasan, and Biplab Kamur of the Detective Branch (DB) raided the BNP Nayapaltan office and carried out vandalism. During the raid, they opened fire at BNP activists gathered around the office. The firing killed a BNP activist, Mokbul Hossen.
Following the incident, Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case against 256 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on September 30, 2024. A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Afzal Naser from his residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30, 2026.
